Pitbull Myths

"Pitbulls have locking jaws" The jaw structure of a pitbull is no different than the jaw structure of any other breed. With proven expert examination, it has been concluded there is no "lock mechanism" in the jaws of a pitbull.

Pitbulls are able to hold on with their front teeth while they chew with their back teeth As stated before the jaw structure of a pitbull is no different than any other dog breed.

Pitbulls don't feel pain This is a very big misconception most people place on the pitbull breed. Pitbulls can and do feel pain like any other dog breed. The only difference is the pitbull breed has been bred to fully complete its tasks no matter the circumstance. This means the dogs are willing to go 110% no matter its pain or discomfort.

Pitbulls attack more than any other breed This is another inaccurate fact many people place on the pitbull breed. Pitbulls are not human aggressive meaning they seek affection from their human counterparts. Statistics show you are more likely to be bitten by a poodle or chihuahua than a pitbull.

Pibulls turn on their owner No breed performs behaviors just because. In all instances a pitbull will show warning signs and if/and only if the warnings go unnoticed or misread the dog will use other measures. This once again is no different than any other breed.

The only thing pitbulls are good for are fighting Although the pitbull was naturally bred to be a fighting dog, the fact that it is a very intelligent breed also allows it to complete all kinds of other jobs. They have been used greatly as comfort dogs, search and rescue dogs, and serving positions with armed forces. Because of a pitbulls loyalty, they are always willing to meet the need of its master in any kind of circumstance.

Pitbull Temperament

When gathering information on a pitbull's temperament you will start to notice that pitbulls are a very kind hearted animals. If a pitbull has the correct temperament, the dog would be friendsly towards friends, family, and even strangers. This is a reason you should never consider having a pitbull be a guard dog as they are way too human-friendly, always seeking affection from their human counterparts. Pitbulls are also great for family households and even around younger kids. With this being said you should hardly ever see any human aggression from these dogs.
Dog and animal aggression on the other hand can be different but it relates differently from dog to dog. Each dog is different and has its own personality so you cant always judge a pit from another pitbulls actions. Pitbulls begin showin their dog aggression around 2 and 3 years but if socialized and trained correctly and early you should have no problems. One common trend with pitbull owners after gettin one want to get another, but i caution this because pitbulls are more aggressive when combined with the same sex.I do know many people that have more than one and there great though. It all depends on how you raise them.
Most pitbull owners who have properly trained and soicialized their dogs correctly will say they are just big couch potatoes that love to get attention. Its a perfect dog if your looking for the perfect companion!!
